SCHOOL JUBILEE DISCUSSED. The action of Mr. A. B. Muggeridge in calling a public meeting to discuss the arrangements made in connection with the school jubilee met with the approval of a large attendance of residents in the Manutahi hall on Monday evening. After Mr. Muggeridge had explained his purpose in calling the meeting it was unanimously decided to recommend to the jubilee committee that the date be changed to Friday, May 25. The main reasons for the change are to avoid Saturday fixtures and to give dairy farmers a better chance to attend as most herds will then be milked only once a day. As more time will be available on the date suggested several alterations in the timetable arranged will aiso be recommended and Messrs. C. Wills and G. Scown are. asked to co-operate with the jubilee executive in drawing up a novelty sports programme. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. A. Thomson proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Muggeridge. for calling the meeting and thus allowing further discussion. This was carried by acclamation. Mr. Muggeridge was voted to the chair for the meeting and Mr. R. A. Schwass was secretary. The jubilee executive will meet after the Easter holidays when arrangements will be revised along the lines of the recommendations. Already much early history of the school has been gathered. Football Trophies. Mr. A. B. Muggeridge presided at an executive meeting of the football club when samples of trophies were on display. tournament has been fixed for May 9, as the date previously selected was on one day of the Hawera races. Patea School Sports. About 20 pupils competed in the combined school sports on Saturday last when the school gained third place. Thanks are due to Mr. S. Denby and Mrs. W. Barclay for their generous assistance in transport. . Mr. E. R. Hodge, board architect, mspected the school buildings, recently preparatory to repair and pamtmg operations to be carried out soon by the board’s workmen. Mr. McMurtnie, senior inspector, accompanied Mr. Hodge. Cricketers’ Social Evening. Since the inception of the Manutahi Cricket Club many matches have been played with the Mokoia. club, and the combined dinner and social evening he by the two teams on Thursday last at the Manutahi Hotel made a fitting ending to a season of friendly rivalry. The Alton and Meremere clubs were also represented. The evening was voted a great 'success, much credit being due to Mr. and Mrs. L. Denby for the excellent .arrangements made.
