RUGBY BROADCASTING
MANAWATU UNION’S VIEWS. Palmerston North, March 2L Consequent on the receipt of a telegram from the Canterbury Rugby Union asking for the opinion of the ManawatU union on the broadcasting of Rugby matches and its effect on the game, the management committee of the ManaWatu Rugby Union decided last night to advise the Canterbury union that Manawatu did not favour the broadcasting of its own matches, but did not object to the broadcasting of other unions. , ’ - The motion was moved by Mr. R. E« ... Hatch, who said that it was good for those who were unable to attend the matches to be able to hear them broad- ~ cast. However, the union did not want to have spectators drawn away fromthe local games. The union would be assured of good attendances if it could offer games of good quality. A Mr. K. W. Eglinton moved as an amendment that the union should advise the Canterbury union that it was op- ,■ posed to the broadcasting of club matches, but had no objection to the broadcasting of inter-provincial or inter-island matches. This, he said, had been ths • previously expressed opinion of th* ■ union. - - ‘
