YARDING AT EGMONT TRIALS. win for f. Mclennan, alton. “The placed dogs were the best I had seen in a yarding event,” said the judge, Mr. F. King, at the Egmont sheep dog trials at Taiporohenui on Thursday. The event was won by F. McLennan, Alton, with Heather. There was a large entry yesterday for the short head and yard event. A total of 35 dogs completed the course and most of them were close. The detailed result is:— CLASS IL—Heading, bringing back, driving through one set of hurdles 9 feet apart, and drive 50 yards to pen and yard; about 400 yards; time, 15m. Mr. King was highly pleased with the work in the short head. The winning dog’s performance, he said, was practically perfect. He slipped a little at the yard. The second dog was not so good in the pull, but in every other respect was perfect. The third dog let the sheep drift a little in the pull and half a point was lost for command. The fourth and fifth lost in the pull and lost position at the yard with half a point lost in command. MANGATOKI UNION CHURCH. PLANS FOR DEBT REDUCTION. An adjourned . meeting of Mangatoki residents was resumed in the church on Monday evening to decide the question of' retaining the Union Church. Mr. E. J. Gifford presided over a fair attendance. The canvas for subscriptions resulted in £42 being secured or promised, an'd later subscriptions made the total £43. It was decided to retain a small portion of this amount for repairs to the spouting of the building and to utilise the balance for the reduction of the £lOO debt. A committee was appointed to organise gatherings to obtain funds to pay the debt. Mr. Hugh Lambie offered to organise a concert for this purpose. The question of appointing fresh trustees was deferred until the debt was paid. The committee appointed was; Mesdames Cliff Pease, E. J. Gifford, C. T. Nicholas, A. A. Hammond, Messrs. J. Lambie, H. Lambie, R. D. Douglass, C. Pease, D. Burke, C. T. Nicholas (chairman) and Cliff Pease (secretary). JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP WON. OKAIAWA RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB. The annual meeting of the Okaiawa Football Club was held on Wednesday night, Mr. J. O’Sullivan presided over a good attendance. The report stated there was a credit of £5 17s 7d on the year’s working and £lO had been paid on the dressing sheds. The junior team won the Taranaki championship and the 7-a-side trophies and the fourth grade team was runner-up in its divisionOfficers elected were: Patron, Mr. R. Roberts; president, Mr. J. Entries for the Taranaki egg-laying competitions at Normanby this year equal last year’s in the fowl section and are. only five fewer in the ducks. The decrease was expected as a number of breeders have abandoned ducks this year. Among the entries are two White Wyandottes from the strain of Mr. T. Dowthwaite’s hen which broke the world’s record ip 1932. They are penned by Mr. G. L. Gaylard, Hawera. One, a direct descendant of the champion, has been laying 24 days and has missed only three eggs, and the other has missed three times in 28 days. Entries were received as follows:— Leghorns: Messrs.
