CYCLISTS’ CUP EVENTS DECIDED. FAREWELL TO POPULAR RESIDENT. The final races for the cups presented by the Tainui Athletic Club for the senior and junior cycle rider obtaining the most points in cycle races for the season, were held at Mokau on Saturday. The weather was favourable and competition was keen. A senior cycle race over 16 miles, drew four starters, • and resulted in a win for N. Clifton off the lmin. mark in 55m. 525. P. Sheen (lmin.) was second in 57m. 35., and H. Bryant scr. was third. N. Clifton made fastest time. This race placed N. Clifton and P. Sheen level, and a run off will be held this week to decide the winner. The trophy for the rider obtaining the aggregate of points for fastest tune for the season goes to N. Clifton. The junior cycle race of 4-} miles was won by N. Bishell, lmin., in 19m. R. Sullivan, Im. 55., was second, time 19m. 50s. A. Pratt was third. Fastest time was made by N. Bishell. _ A dance arranged by the Mokau Hall committee was held in the hall on Saturday evening in honour of Mr. S. Sole, who is leaving the district to reside at Ohaupo. The function was very well attended by residents, and visitors were present from Tongaporutu and Awakmo. Music was supplied by Miss M. Ormand and Mr. L. Bryant. On tehalf of the Tainui Football Club, Mr. S. Whitehead presented Mr. S. Sole with a wallet. A presentation of a set of military brushes to Mr. Tony Sole, from the Mokau schoolchildren, was made by the Rev. J. Templer. Supper was seiwed by the ladies and members of the football team. Mr. M. Pratt was master of ceremonies. An enjoyable smoke concert was tendered Mr. Sole by members of the Tainui Amateur Athletic Club in the Mokau Hall on Monday evening. The president, Mr D. Rikihana, presented Mr. Sole with a fountain pen on behalf of the club. Mr. D. Rikihana thanked Mr. Sole for the help he had given to the club in the past, and expressed regret that such an energetic worker in the interests of the club was leaving the district. The evening’s activities took an unusual form when, in response to a message, all the guests turned out to assist, the local police to trace men wanted in connection with the alleged theft of a motorcar. Later the search party returned to supper.
