PREPARING OF THE NEW SEASON. MEETING OF UNION COMMITTEE. The final. meeting of the-management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union before the annual meeting . was held last night, when various matters were dealt with. There were present Messrs Jas McLeod (chairman), W. A. Guy, K. Jury, I. Rowe, E. H. Young, J. S.'Hickey, L. J. Henderson, E. R. Coutts, J. Garcia, L. J. Furrie and ,S. E.' Nielson (secretary). ' ■ Notification was received, that, the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union would be held on April 19. The New Zealand union notified that the management committee would bring down a proposal to amend the Ranfurly Shield rules to provide that a visiting team’s expenses in connection with a special challenge match would be limited to 50 per cent.. of the net gates. Notification was received; from Mr. Petrie stating that the proposed New Zealand university representative tour would probably eventuate and, that the. date set down for the Taranaki match would either be May 19 or May 26. Mr. I. V. Buchanan, , secretary of the Schneider Shield controlling board, .asked that the union replace ■ three, jerseys damaged during a junior. representative match, which was agreed to. Permission for matches and tournaments were granted as follows: Kaponga Football Club, seven-a-side tournament on Easter Saturday; Tariki Football Club, seven-a-side junior tournament Easter Monday; Waimate, Football Club, 10-a--side, April 14; Toko, seven-a-side, April 19; Patea club, Manutahi, seven-a-side, May 9 Star and Tukapa were granted permission to play the Dan O’Brien and Carbine Shield matches at; Pukekura Park on the Saturday before the opening of the fixtures; Old Boys v. Clifton, Black and White Cup match at Pukekura Park on the Saturday before StarTukapa match; Old Boys v. Wanganui Old Boys, Easter Saturday, at Western Park; Stratford v. Inglewood, Tap O’Neill Shield match, April 14. Mr. W. R. Shaw, Hawera, asked that a match should be arranged between New Plymouth and Hawera clubs for the Shaw Ambulance Cup to provide funds for the St John Ambulance Brigade and the Hawera Red Cross field corps.

Mr H. Eagles, secretary of the St. John Ambulance Brigade,- forwarded a copy of its balance-sheet and notified that it was desirous of equipping each of its members with uniforms; It asked the union whether it would ’ contribute ’ £5 10s so as to equip one man’ The chairman said the ambulance now rendered valuable assistance.

Mr. Rowe said the men were very keen, attending every match in South Taranaki.

The secretary said the ambulance now saved the union a considerable sum in doctors’ expenses. It was unanimously resolved to recommend ‘that the incoming management committee vote £5 5s to the New Plymouth and Hawera societies. . It’was also resolved that the union do all that it could to facilitate the arrangement of a match

The committee decided to recommend the incoming committee to open the senior competition on April 21.
