VOGELTOWN SCHOOL AFFAIRS
BALANCE-SHEET PREPARED. McHARDY SWIMMING SHIELD WON. The Vogeltown school committee met last night, when there were present Messrs. J. M. Thomson (chairman), S. R. Smith, T. Johns, R. Gilbert (honorary secretary). The headmaster (Mr. F. A. Nichol) reported that the roll, was 154, the average attendance for February being 151. Miss McLeod, assistant in place of Miss Gibson, commenced duty on March 5. Mr. D. Mackay, agricultural instructor, visited the school on March 12. A team from the school won the Me-' Hardy Shield at the swimming sports held at the municipal baths on March 3, and oqe boy, Alf. Booker, was third in the schoolboys’ championship on February 24. The West End committee wrote congratulating the school a meritorious performance in winning the McHardy Shield. It was mentioned by the headmaster that West End school had won the shield ten times in the thirteen years for which it was competed. It was decided to ask Mr. T. Paton to consult with Mr. Mackay regarding the control of the beehive at the school and the supervision of the children s woik in that direction. The balance-sheet prepared for the year ended February 28, 1934, showed m the general account gross receipts as ill 2s 7d including a grant of £66 13s 9d. Payments totalled £6l 6s, leaving a credit balance of £9 16s 7d. In the special account receipts amounted to £2l Is 7d, including £lO 0s 4d balance from the previous year and dental clinic contributions of £9 12s. Sports material and such cost £4 4s 3d and £lO 7s 6d was paid for the dental clinic. The credit balance in the second account was £2 13s 10d. w
