Mr. E. G. Lane, Oamaru, is on a visit to New Plymouth. Mr. J. E. Reid is leaving New Plymouth shortly for Palmerston North to take over the Imperial Hotel. Mr. S. Gliftpn Bingham, Christchurch, is at New Plymouth and is staying at the Criterion Hotel. Mr. R. W. McVilly, Wellington, is staying at the White Hart Hotel, New Plymouth.

‘Major J. Abel, Wellington, chairman of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, will arrive at New Plymouth this evening* leaving again for Wellington on Friday.

Messrs. R. Stuart, chairman of the Inglewood County Council, and G. W. Gibson, a councillor, were yesterday reappointed by the council as its representatives on the North Committee of the Egmont National Park Board. Sympathy with Mr. J. S. Connett, chairman of the Taranaki County Council, and his serious illness was expressed by the Inglewood County Council yesterday, when hopes were expressed for his speedy recovery. Members of the Inglewood County Council yesterday personally subscribed £1 5s to provide a trophy to be competed for at a swimming carnival which is to be held in conjunction with the Inglewood county schools’ picnic. At a meeting of Mount Egmont National Park Board yesterday a motion of sympathy with Mr. J. S. Connett in his serious illness was passed. Mr. Connett is deputy chairman of the board and chairman of the' Northern Committee.

The death has occurred of Mr. Ernest Novello Andrews, aged 56, formerly well known in both islands as a buyer for overseas brokers, states a Press Association message from Christchurch. He represented the French and Belgian firm Kreglinger and Fernau here for 17 years. He learned his business in Bradford and London.

Sister Corkill’s services in assisting New Plymouth people in needy circumstances were referred to by Mr. P. E. Stainton at last night’s meeting of the New Plymouth Mayor’s Relief Council. Sister Corkill, who was leaving New Plymouth, had been a valuable and inspiring worker on the council, said Mr. Stainton, and had been loved by all with whom she had come in contact. The council thanked her for her help and wished her success.

Pelham, Auckland, Mr. O. C. Hallett, Auckland, Mr. H. N. Hilliard, Auckland, and Mr. C. A. Neilson, Welington, are at the Criterion Hotel, New Plymouth. Mr. H. W. Martin, Inglewood county clerk, was present at the meeting of the council yesterday after an absence of three months caused by an accident on Mount Egmont. The chairman on behalf of the council extended him a welcome and expressed satisfaction at his complete recovery. In acknowledging Mr. Martin expressed appreciation of the very capable manner in which Miss L. Frewin had done the work during his absence. That was endorsed by the chairman.
