ROLL AT HIGH SCHOOL
NEW PUPILS EQUAL LAST YEAR’S. ANALYSIS OF COURSES TAKEN. “The number of new pupils at the Stratford Technical High School is equal to the enrolment of last year, but fewer old pupils have returned to the school, which can be taken as an indication that employment is somewhat more easily obtained than it was this time last year,” stated the principal (Mr. A. H. R. Amess) in his report last night to the board of managers. When the school opened on Monday the roll totalled 334, made up as follows: General course: First year, girls 16, boys 17, total 33; second year, 8, 15, 23; third and fourth years, 29, 66, 95. Science course: First year, 10, 26, 36; second year, 9, 24, 33. Commercial course: First year, 16, 5, 21; second year, 18, 3, 21; third and fourth years, 31, 2, 34. Trades and domestic: First year, 3, 20, 23; second year, 15 boys, 15. Questioned by Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., the principal stated that there were ten fewer pupils taking the commercial class this year as compared with last, and more in the general course. Mr. A. W. White was given leave to attend the military camp at Waipukurau, and Mr. C. Walker was appointed to relieve him.
The replacement of wire netting around the tennis courts was authorised.
