PUKENGAHU ATHLETIC CLUB
SUCCESS OF LAST SEASON. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the Pukengahu Athletic Club was held on Wednesday evening, there being a large and enthusiastic attendance. Prior to the business the president, Mr. D. C. McGuinness, made feeling reference to the loss the club and the district had suffered by the death of Mr. John O’Neill, who had been president of the club for three years and latterly had been secretary. The meeting stood in silence as a mark of respect.
The president in his annual report briefly reviewed the past year, congratulating members on the progress made. The sports meeting and the dance in the evening had both been outstanding successes. He thanked those who donated trophies and in other ways helped the club.
The balance-sheet, which was adopted, disclosed a credit of £24 Os Bd. It was decided to hold a sports meeting on Thursday, March 15, and the following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P.; president, Mr. D. C. McGuinness; vice-president, Mr. W.. McKinlay; secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. Harper; assistant-secretary, Mr. H. Kirk; auditor, Mr. F. Clemow; judges, Messrs. Wells, Coppiestone, Harris and Mehrtens; starter, Mr. Fowler; handicapper, Mr. R. Pattinson; referee, Mr. T. Kirkwood; timekeeper, Mr. J. Petrie. Various other committees were elected to function on sports day. The programme committee was recommended to consider applying for a Taranaki cycling championship over any distance the parent body might think suitable.
