SIMPLER SPELLING

CHICAGO NEWSPAPER. Chicago, Jan. 30. On the grounds that certain words are too lengthy, the Chicago Tribune henceforth will print 24 in a shorthand and simplified form. To show that their effort was genuine the editors of the newspaper urged the principal owner, Colonel Robert McCormick, hereafter to spell his name McCormik. He willingly agreed and notified his bankers accordingly. Most of the new words omit “I’s” for example, skilful for skillful, controler for controller, and introduce prolog,' monolog and decalog. The Tribune does not disclose how it expects to secure official recognition of these changes.
