PIG EXPORT TO BRITAIN
PRIMARY SCHOOL COMPETITION. DEMONSTRATION AT WAITARA. A number of teachers and pupils visited the Waitara freezing works yesterday to see how their competition pigs for export were dealt with prior to shipment. Mr. Dill-Macky, agricultural instructor, who was responsible for inaugurating the competition in the schools, was also present. . Mr. Walker, grader for Messrs. Borthwick and Sons, explained to those present the method of grading. He also pointed out the type of pip mdst suitable for export to Britain. Twentyseven carcases were killed at the Waitara works, of which 26 were graded first quality and one second quality. The carcases are being sent to the Smithfield marked for judging and exhibition there, and a report and photographs of the exhibit will be forwarded to New Zealand by Messrs. T. Borthwick and Sons’ London office. The carcases are being shipped from New Plymouth by the Port Hunter, which is expected to arrive to-day. ■
