PIG RAISING FOR EXPORT
MR. H. C. SORENSON’S REPORT. SELECTION OF THE RIGHT TYPES, The desire for better ways of pigmarketing in Taranaki recently led the North Taranaki executive of the Farmeres’ Union to appoint Mr. H. C. Sorenson, a farmer with considerable experience in the handling of the animals, to visit the Waikato district with a view to obtaining more information. Reporting on the pig-market situation at an executive meeting yesterday Mr. Sorenson stated that three clubs recently were formed in Taranaki as the result of his visit to the Waikato. The desire was to have the right type of pigs distributed among dairy farmers. There was a very advanced field of selection to be made in Taranaki. In the Waikato there were no stallfed pigs, grass forming 25 per cent, of feed. The chief necessity was the selection of the right types, in' this case the Large White and the Tamworth. To aid breeding he was securing a moving picture showing the development of pigs in the Waikato. To aid in the development of the clubs he would be prepared to speak to meetings. In thanking Mr. Sorenson the president (Mr. H.. E. Blyde) said the .export-of pigs would play a large part in the future development of New Zealand’s export trade.
