ULM TO LEAVE MURIWAI
AIR MAIL FLIGHT SATURDAY BLENHEIM EXPECTED TO PROTEST. TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND LETTERS. ULM LEAVES SYDNEY BY. MARAMA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Mr. C. T. P. Ulm’s air mail flight to Sydney is set down for Saturday, February 17, from the Muriwai beach. He will take off at about 6 a.m. Nearly 25,000 letters are at present being held to go by the mail. Now that the departure has been announced a rush will probably take place. All letters, no matter through which office they originally pass, will be finally post-mark-at the Auckland post office with the date of the flight. The Marlborough Aero Club learned for the first time in a round-about way this morning of Mr. Ulm’s change of plans. In view of the fact that complete arrangements for servicing the machine at Blenheim have been finalised, it is understood that a strong protest is likely to be made against the change. The club received no advice of the change from Mr. Ulm, his manager or the post office. The decision upon a more northerly take-off is based on the expectation of better weather conditions. “It simply means that the servicing arrangements which have been completed at Blenheim will have to be duplicated,” stated an official connected with the flight. “Mr. Ulm is due to have left Sydney by the Marama to-day for Wellington.”
