ANOTHER LYNCHING
NEGRO IN KENTUCKY. AMERICA’S GRIM RECORD. New York, Jan. 30. America’s lynching record for 1934 threatens to be a big one. Already several lynchings have taken place, and Hazard, Kentucky, was the scene of another recently. Alex. Johnson, a stalwart citizen, aged 32, was accompanying two women companions when a negro, Rex Scott, aged 20, addressed an insulting remark to them. Johnson struck him, and, retaliating, Scott shot Johnson, who may die. A mob of 300 people snatched Scott out of gaol, took him to a cemetery, hanged him from a branch of a tree, and riddled his body with bullets. Four rioters have been arrested. All deny complicity in the lynching.
