REDUCTION IN PILOT FEES
VESSELS AT PORT OF AUCKLAND. ESTIMATE SAVING OF £lO,OOO. . By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Feb. 7. A reduction in pilotage fees estimated to save shipping companies £lO,BOO was decided upon by the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday. The maximum rate of pilotage will be £5O in and £5O out per vessel, with half rates for a second visit on the same trip to the Dominion, and no vessel will be charged pilotage for more than six calls in one year. The estimated saving per annum to shipping companies trading with Auckland will be: Matson Line £4750, New Zealand Shipping Company £2646, Union Steam Ship Company £l2OO, Shaw, Savill and Albion Company £92, Blue. Star Line £727, Commonwealth and Dominion Line £370, sundry £2OO. . _ The chairman of the board said that the reduction would seriously hamper the carrying out of many contemplated improvements, but the board’s object was to make the port even more popular.
