COMPETITION AMONG MAORIS. ARAWAS WIN THE ROSE BOWL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Waitangi, Feb. 7. The Waitangi celebrations having officially ended yesterday, thousands are leaving the camp to-day. The award of Te Rahi rose bowl, presented by Lady Bledisloe, was made this morning to the paramount chief of the Arawas, Tai Mitchell. Ngati Perou and Tuwharetoa Were equal second and Ngapuhi third. The points were awarded for war dances, hakas, pois, peru perus, oratory, historical recitation and knowledge of classical Maori language. The judges were Sir Apirana Ngata and Mr. Taito Te Tomo. The rose bowl stancis two feet high, and will be for challenge competition.
