She will be followed six days later by the Port Victor, which will load 17,000 freight carcases of meat and 7700 boxes of butter. BALACLAVA ON MONDAY. The Shell Oil Company’s chartered tanker Balaclava is due at New Plymouth on Monday to discharge 1500 tons of bulk spirit NAMING OF STRATHMORE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 7. Advice has been received by the Hon. Alexander Shaw, chairman of the P. and O. Shipping Company,' that the Earl of Strathmore, father of the Duchess of York and owner of the historic Glamis Castle, has consented to have the new P. and O. liner for rhe Indian-Austra-lian'trade named after him. Mr. Shaw, who arrived at Wellington by the Monowai yesterday, said the Strathmore would be larger than either the Strathnaver or the Strathaird,' two liners now running to Australia. EGMONT VILLAGE NEWS

HALL COMMITTEE’S DANCE. That Egmont Village dances are becoming even more popular was evidenced by the crowd that was present at the last evening, under the auspices of the hall committee, on Wednesday night. Patrons were there from New Plymouth, Mangamahoe, Kent Road, Lepperton, Mangorei, Hillsborough, Inglewood and Stratford, ■ besides many local enthusiasts. Messrs. Rowe and Watson supplied delightful dance music, while Messrs. J. Dryden and G. Comey were masters of ceremonies. Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mr. Joe Drinkwater and partner and Mr. Lonsdale and partner. Supper was dispensed by members of the hall committee, after which dancing was resumed. The Egmont Village school committee held its monthly meeting in the senior school room on Tuesday, when Messrs. H. R. Marsh (chairman), W. J. Guilford, A. J. Dodunski and J. Adamson were present. The meeting decided to call tenders for blackberry cutting and hedge trimming in the school grounds, also for tlie cleaning and scrubbing of the school. It was decided to make a change in the choice of the annual picnic ground on February 23, and Waitara beach was chosen. Several afternoons have been tendered Miss Gwen Olson, whose wedding takes place shortly. Miss Jean Bishop held a most enjoyable "pantry” afternoon, when friends gathered and played tennis and enjoyed competitions. Mrs. Leech entertained friends at a handkerchief afternoon in honour of Miss Olson. Miss Jean Morton held a delightful gift afternoon” party for Miss Olson, when many friends were present and a happy time was spent with tennis and competitions. On Monday evening Mrs. Gorney entertained the many friends of Miss Olson at a “kitchen” party. The guest of honour wore a pretty green satin frock. Dancing was the order of the evening find supper whs served, by the ■hostess. , , Mr. and Mrs. Barnes have returned from a holiday spent at Wanganui. Miss Street returned to the Village on Saturday to resume her school duties on Monday morning. Misses Comey and Olson have returned after a holiday spent at Auckland. Mrs. Watson, Matamata, is the guest of her sister, .Mrs. Comey. • Mrs. Street, Rahotu, is the guest of Mrs. A. Morton. Mr. and Mrs. E. Bateson-Jagger, Whangarei, who are making a motor tour of the North Island, are staying with Mrs. H. R. Marsh. Mrs. R. Hurlstone has returned to her home after her long sojourn in the New Plymouth hospital. Mrs. Abercrombie, Wanganui, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Barnes. Mrs. Klipsch, Waiuku, Auckland, is visiting Taranaki and is spending her holidays with her mother, Mrs. Crush, Lepper Road.
