TANGARAKAU NEWS
RAILWAY REFRESHMENT ROOMS.
After petitioning the Minister of Railways (Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) and Mr. G. H. general manager, the citizens and settlers have been informed that Tangarakau has been decided upon for a railway refreshment room site. Some time ago tenders were invited for a- lease of a site for erection of a refreshment room but owing to a misapprehension and cost of building to Government specifications, applicants cancelled their tenders. An offer was made to lease a site near the station, leaving the department space for erection of refreshment rooms if necessary. The citizens have been advised by Mr. Mackley that the land officer had been authorised to accept the offer. It is anticipated the facilities will be open to the’travelling public about Easter time. Very heavy falls of rain were experienced at Tangarakau last week. As a result the river rose five feet, but owing to the high banks no damage was done.
A successfuT dance was held in the Tangarakau hall on Saturday. Music was supplied by Mrs. York, Mrs. Beale and E. York. Misses G. and V. Whittleston have returned to Stratford after a few days’ holiday with Mrs. W. Shanks. Messrs. P. Fougere, H. Frewin and RChilds motored through the Tangarakau Gorge on Wednesday. Mr. R. McCartie and Mr. W. Hill were the guests of Mr. W. C. McKenny during the week-.
