“SPIRIT” KIDNAPPERS
MARY PICKFORD’S FEARS. FOUR DETECTIVES ON GUARD. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. New York, Jan. 28. Mary Pickford (Mrs. Douglas Fairbanks), the film actress, arrived at New York to-day guarded by four private detectives. She immediately secluded herself in her hotel suite where she personally inspected the placing of special locks on all doors. Her publicity representative admitted that Mary Pickford’s life story was shortly to be published in a popular magazine. She herself insisted emphatically that the kidnap scare was real, although the suspected persons merely talked irrationally about a “message from the spirit world.”
