Mr. P. J. Petersen, Britton, left last pjght for Te Aroha where he is to judge the Jersey section at the A. and P. show which opens to-day. F. Copeland, who is on holiday. Mr. Johnson will also supply on ope, Sunday next month, when Mr. Copeland will be attending the annual Methodist conference at Wellington. The death has occurred at Masterton of Major Frank Batchelor, manager of the Cecelia Whatman Home, a Salvation Army orphanage, since it? inception about ten years ago. Major Batchelor, who was a native of New Zealand, jived at Auckland prior to his entry into the Salvation Army as an officer. For a time he worked in Australia, and on his return to New Zealand he took charge of the Vivian Street (Wellington) men’s hostel for returned soldiers, being later manager of the People’s Palace, Christchurch. He was aged about 48 years, and is survived by his wife, Lieutenant Batchelor, There is no family.
