DEATH OF JOCKEY BAKER
NO BLAME ATTACHABLE. MOUNT BROUGHT IN QUICKLY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Takapuna Jockey Club judicial committee’s adjourned inquiry into the death of G. A. Baker, aged 20, of Morrinsville, the rider of Kelly in the Calliope Handicap on Saturday, concluded today. The committee found that the accident was due to the horse coming too sharply into the rails about 2J furlongs from the post, whereby Baker was thrown and the horse came down. The evidence showed that the course and the rail at this point were in excellent condition for racing. The evidence also indicated that the rider brought his mount in too quickly at this point, and in view of the fact that Kelly was having his first race, he was probably running somewhat green. There was no evidence of foul riding op interference by other riders, Kelly running last just prior to the mishap, which was purely accidental, no blame being attachable to anyone.
