Demanding recognition of their union, higher pay and shorter hours, 10,000 waiters, cooks and kitchen assistants went on strike to-night, crippling the service of virtually every major hotel and restaurant in the city. Two thousand strikers led by Miss Jennie Lee, former Labour member of the British Parliament, who recently arrived, paraded to the exclusive Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where they jeered and hooted top-hatted, evening,gowned guests.
