DEATH OF VETERAN

FOUGHT AGAINST MAD MULLAH. LEGISLATICE COUNCIL MESSENGER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A South African war veteran, Mr. Alfred Roe, died at Wellington yesterday at the age of 64 years. He had during his earlier life served 21 years in the Royal Marines. In the Boer War he was principally engaged on the Portuguese East African border to prevent the smuggling of arms into the Transvaal for the enemy. Afterwards Mr. Roe was engaged in an expedition to Somaliland to suppress the rising organised by “Mad Mullah.” For 15 years he was employed as a messenger in the Legislative Council. Mr. Roe has no relatives in New Zealand.
