AUCKLAND TENNIS TITLES

ANDREWS AND MALFROY IN FINAL HIGH STANDARD OF MATCHES. Auckland, Jan. 27. E. D. Andrews, last year’s national singles title-holder, and C. E. Malfroy, this year’s Dominion champion, will fight out on Monday the final of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s championship. Stanley Street’s galleries were well packed this afternoon, when the semi-final matches in various events were decided. Tennis of a high standard was shown, and there were frequent bursts of applause from the spectators. With so many stars competing, seldom has the Auckland tournament created so much glamour. The West Coast tennis championships, interrupted by two days’ rain, were continued to-day in fine weather and with a good gallery. Dymond (Christchurch) retained the men’s singles, defeating Ford (Christchurch) in the final 2—6, 6—2, 6—l. Miss Costello (Greymouth) retained the ladies’ singles title, defeating Mrs. Waluer (Westport) 6 —4, 6—2. Minifie and McLauchlin (Christchurch) won the men’s doubles from- Warner and Pattison (Greymouth) 6 —3, 6—2, and Nottle defeated Fowler 6—3, 6—5 in the final of the boys’ championships.
