AUCKLAND TENNIS TITLES

ANDREWS AND MALFROY IN FINAL HIGH STANDARD OF MATCHES. Auckland, Jan. 27. E. D. Andrews, last year’s national singles title-holder, and C. E. Malfroy, this year’s Dominion champion, will fight out on Monday the final of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s championship. Stanley Street’s galleries were well packed this afternoon, when the semi-final matches in various events were decided. Tennis of a high standard was shown, and there were frequent bursts of applause from the spectators. With so many stars competing, seldom has the Auckland tournament created so much glamour. Results are:— Men’s Singles:—Semi-final: Malfroy beat Sturt 10—8, 7—5, 6—3; Andrews beat Donohoe 6—l, 6—l, 6 —2. Men’s Doubles:—Quarter finals: Morrison and Rowlands beat Chalmers and Hayes 6—2, 6—2, 6—l; Bartleet and Malfroy beat Hayr and E. R. Jones 6—3, 6—o, 9—7; Donohoe and M. T. Wilson beat Turner and Turner 6—l, 6—2, 6 —o. Semi-finals: Andrews and' Sturt beat Morrison and Rowlands 6—4, 6 —l, 6—2. Ladies’ Singles:—Semi-finals: Miss Nicholls beat Miss Knight 6—l, 6—l; Miss Marjorie Macfarlane beat Miss N. Beverley 5—7, 6—4, 6—2. Ladies’ Doubles:—Quarter-finals: Misses Ramsay and Newton beat Mesdames Adams and Grey^p— 2,. 6—o. Semi-finals: Miss Beverley -and Miss Nicholls beat Mrs. Melody and Miss Knight 6—o, 6—o. Mixed Doubles:—Second round: Malfroy and Miss Knight beat V. R. Johns and Miss M. Beverley 6 —4, 6—2; Griffiths and Miss Griffiths beat Robinson and Miss Ramsay 6—4, 6—4. Quarter finals: Rowlands and Miss N. Beverley beat Lamb and Mrs. Wren 6 —l, 6—3. TENNIS ON WEST COAST. DYMOND MEN’S SINGLES WINNER. ■ By Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. The West Coast tennis championships, interrupted by two days’ rain, were continued to-day in fine weather and with a good gallery. Dymond (Christchurch) retained the men’s singles, defeating Ford (Christchurch) in the final 2—6, 6—2, 6—l. Miss Costello (Greymouth) retained the ladies’ singles title, defeating Mrs. Waluer (Westport) 6 —4, 6—2. Minifie and McLauchlin (Christchurch) won the men’s doubles from- Warner and Pattison (Greymouth) 6 —3, 6—2, and Nottle defeated Fowler 6—3, 6—5 in the final of the boys’ championships. The other matches are still in progress.
