TOO SLOW FOR CONSTABLE

RACING CYCLIST LOSES IN CHASE. FINES IMPOSED ON LAMBERTON. By Telegraph— Association. Christchurch, Jan. 26. In the course of a successful career as a racing cyclist William J. Lamberton has shaken off some of the best riders in New Zealand, but he was beaten by Constable Stewart in a short sprint a few nights ago and to-day appeared in court charged with cycling without a light, or a white rear mudguard, and was further charged with obstructing a constable.

The sub-inspector described it as a bad case by a persistent offender. He added that when Lamberton was challenged by the constable he attempted to get away but he was chased by the constable on his cycle and caught about 150 yards down the road. He then gave a false name and address and not until some time later when taken to the station did he give his true name. Lam-, berton had appeared in the court many times and had 16 convictions. Lamberton pleaded guilty hnd fines amounting to £2 13s were imposed.
