Except to the principal actor, there must have seemed to be a certain amount of humour in a scene which took place at the Old Bailey, says the “Autocar.” A motorist was being tried on a charge of driving a car while under the influence of drink. A doc.tor said that he put the defendant to the Romberg test, which consists of standing with the feet together and the eyes shut. The defendant swayed. The doctor was asked by the Recorder to leave the witness box and give a demonstration of the test. The doctor also swayed.» So the jury stopped the case and the motorist was discharged.
