WHANGAMOMONA NEWS
GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. The work of duplicating the telephone line between Whangamomona and Ohura is proceeding steadily. The high-tension line being constructed through the area has rendered earth-working telephone circuits impracticable, and about 40 miles of iron telephone wire has had to be replaced with two copper wires. This should provide a better speaking circuit, though it may be more easily upset than the earth line. 1 The Whangamomona tennis courts have been the scene of interesting ladder matches recently, members being unusually keen to secure a place in the team. Matches with Kohuratahi and Strathmore have been arranged. Whangamomona’s first six ladies are Misses N. Geeves, E. Geeves, Mrs. L. Robinson, Mrs. D. Clopatt, Miss M. Howley and Mrs. J. Anderson, and the first six men are C. Howley, C. Gilmour, F. Anderson, L. Robinson, N. Childs and R. Buckenham. Personal. The Rev. Fussell, vicar of Whangamomona, is visiting his parents at Waimate North. Mrs. W. Evans, Rotorua, and Mrs. A. Anderson, Auckland, who have been the guests of Mrs. Lloyd Robinson, have returned to Auckland.
Mr. and Mrs. Stratford, Tauranga, have taken up residence at Whangamomona, where Mr. Stratford has been appointed station-master, replacing Mr. G. Thomson. Miss Fahey, Waverley, is the guest of Mrs. L. C. Buckenham.
Mrs. A. H. Perry is on a holiday visit to New Plymouth. Mrs. Jack Anderson left on Friday for a short visit to Auckland. Miss Joan Francis, Stratford, is spending a holiday with Mrs. J. Gilmour.
