Mr. W. G. Mander, Timaru, is visiting New Plymouth. Mr. F. J. Hill has returned to New Plymouth from the South Island. Mr. A. J. Luxton, Omata, is visiting the Waikato.

Mr. F. Sheppard, formerly of the New Plymouth branch of. the Bank of Australasia, and now of Dannevirke, is visiting New Plymouth. Mr. C. Clarke, engineer to the New Plymouth Borough Council, has returned from Tauranga. Mr. Percy Woods, Spotswood, has entered a New Plymouth private hospital. An operation has been performed and Mr. Wood is progressing satisfactorily. Messrs. N. B. Palmer, Victoria, and F. Crowther, Bromsgrdve, England, were visitors at the Criterion Hotel, New Plymouth, in the week-entl. Other visitors were Messrs. I. D. Reid, Wellington, G. L. Patterson, Wellington, and J. Wallace, Waverley.

Gribble, secretary of the Boys’ Employment Committee, at Auckland, in discussing the existing demand for boys in town and country jobs. Mr. Gribble stated that there was an improved tone ip the number of inquiries received from dairy fanners, and several sheep farmers had also applied. The wages offered for the employment of boys showed a distinct tendency to rise. Although a smaller number of boys had been offering at the end of last year, there had been an increase this month, and the average youth in search of employment was a fine vigorous type.
