SHOOTING IN ALPS

VISITING PEER’S PLANS; TOURING GLACIER COUNTRY. Intent on visiting the West rCoast glaciers, and doing some shooting in the Southern Alps, the Duke of.. Northumberland passed through Christchurch last week. He travelled to’ the West , Coast as the guest of the ■ Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and*Lady Bledisloej joining them in the Vice-Regal carriage which was attached to the express. The Duke is accompanied by Lieutenant-Col-onel Henslowe, his travelling companion, on a comprehensive overseas tour. The Duke and Colonel Henslowe planned to go from Hokitika to the Franz Josef. After their stay at the glacier, they will take the “overland" route hack to Canterbury, making the Copeland Pass trip over the Southern Alps. In the ranges of the Mount Cook region they will spend some time chamois hunting.

From New Zealand the travellers will go on to India, where they expect to spend some time.
