RACING INCIDENT

SWAB OF HORSE TAKEN. FLUID TO BE ANALYSED. A happening unusual in New Zealand racing occurred at the Thames Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday, when, under official supervision, a veterinary surgeon took a swab of the saliva of Prolyxo after she had run unplaced in the Thames Plate Handicap. A bottle, containing the remainder of a fluid that had been administered to Prolyxo by means of .n syringe down the throat, and what fluid was left in the syringe itself, were also taken possession of. The swab was taken with the approval of Prolyxo’s owner, Mr. L. S. Otway, and in the presence of Mr. C. Gomer,' chief stipendary steward to the New Zealand Racing Conference, and Mr. F. Cullen, racecourse inspector. The swab and fluid were brought to Auckland by Mr. Cullen and will be submitted to analysis. Prolyxo is a sister to Ammon Ra, being a four-year-old mare by Limond from Hyades. and has been fairly successful, winning five races last season and two this season. Her career has been affected by bleeding, and the attendant who administered the fluid stated that it was given for the purpose of checking the tendency to bleed during the race. Prolyxo later also ran unplaced in the Farewell Handicap.
