FRANKLEY ROAD SCHOOL

YEAR OF PROGRESS REVIE V /ED. CONCERT BY THE PUPILS. There was a splendid attendance on Tuesday night at the Frankley Road school gymnasium, which had been specially decorated for the school concert and presentation of certificates. The concert programme did credit to the headmaster, Mr. R. J. Thomas, and his assistant, Miss Haylock. It was not too long, and in both the musical items and the eurythmic dances the children gave ample evidence of careful teaching and training. All the children were in fancy dress and this added to the pleasing effect of the dancing. Mr. Thomas in reviewing the year’s work laid stress on the Increased attendance, which would next year entitle the school to a permanent assistant, a fact that would doubtless prove of great benefit to the children. He briefly reviewed the year’s activities, especially with regard to the school’s participation in the calf-rearing competition, the beekeeping experiments and the home garden plots. He paid tribute to the work of the committee and its chairman, Mr. F. Lee. On behalf of the committee the headmaster made a presentation to Miss Haylock, who had been his assistant during, the last four months.

Mr. Lee before presenting the certificates and awards thanked Mr. Thomas and his staff on behalf of the parents for their splendid efforts during the year. The following certificates besides those of proficiency, were presented:— Calf-judging: Award of merit and silver badge, Joyce Neighbour, second in group 4 for condition; Desmond Lobb, blue ribbon for -securing second: place in the heavy breed type at Waiwakaiho; Ronald Jury, winner of junior championship for home garden plots. Athletics: Peggy Okey, first 50 yards flat, third 35 yards skipping; Eunice Brooke, first senior potato race; Eva Taylor, third 100 yards senior. At the conclusion of the concert supper was served by the ladies and the floor was then cleared for dancing.
