LORD DE CLIFFORD BEATS TRAIN.
HEAVY SNOW ON. LONGER ROUTE.

Lord De Clifford, in a 30 horsepower Lagonda car, made the fastest run from Dieppe (Northern France) to Brindisi (Southern Italy) ever recorded, covering 1638 miles in 44J hours running time. Lord De Clifford and two others drove in turn. They averaged 36.4 miles an hour for the whole run, which beat the express train by three hours despite the motor route being 300 miles longer. They encountered heavy snow in Central France but occasionally reached 90 miles an hour.
