WIDER POWERS FOR BOARD MANAGEMENT OF FARMING LANDS RATING BILL NOT TO PROCEED. OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE EVIDENCE. (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. Extension of the powers of the Native Land Development Board is recommended by the Native Affairs Committee to which the House of Representatives referred the Native Purposes Bill. The committee recommends that the powers of control conferred on the board be extended to include control over investments on mortgages or otherwise made or agreed to by the Native Trustee or the Maori board either before or after the passing of the Bill, over expenditure on all farming operations undertaken or approved by the Native Trustee or board either before or after the passing of the Bill, and over the development of any land and management of any scheme or undertaking in connection with which any expenditure has been made or incurred before or after the passing of the Bill.
The same committee also considered the Rating Amendment Bill brought down to include the recommendations of the special committee which investigated the problem of Native rates, and recommended that in order to give those interested an opportunity to give evidence the Bill be not allowed. to proceed this session. Both reports were tabled.
