MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE.

At the Pihama school committee meet" ing Messrs. J. S. Tosland (chainnan), W. A. Sheat (secretary) and Duffey, Segar and R. Hunt were present

The headmaster, Mr. W. D. Beck, reported a roll number of 62, with an average attendance of 57.2 for November. Influenza mainly affected the attendance. The proficiency examination was held on November 30, when six pupils were presented, five of whom gained their proficiency and one competency. Sister Small forwarded questions for the firstaid examination, the results of which was to be given on the nurse’s next visit. Mr. R. Syme,, agriculture instructor, reported favourably on both the indoor and garden work, also on the keen interest taken in the calf-rearing competitions. He commended the improved standard and greater care in the written work. The injury to two pupils was dealt with in detail. After inspection and discussion the committee was of the opinion that the top of. the monument which had caused the injury was not securely fixed to the lower part. What cementing there was had become weather worn, leaving a top-heavy structure. Following the headmatser’s recommendation it was decided to place the matter before the Education Board, and Mr. Tosland and Mr. Beck were thanked for their efforts in seeing that the necessary attention was given the injured pupils. Mr. Forsyth and Mr. Tosland were accorded a vote of thanks for their assistance with the calf-rearing competitions at Otakeho.
