Mr. W. Harris, a member of the New Plymouth corps of the Salvation Army, has been promoted to the rank of envoy. This is the highest' rank attainable by a local officer. >'

Major Gray, divisional chancellor of the Salvation Army, who conducted services at New Plymouth yesterday, will leave lor Palmerston North by the express train this morning. Mr. Clifford J. Stace, Wellington and formerly of New Plymouth, has been admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers. Mrs. W. Chambers, chaperone, Misses Claire Dennis and Frances Bult, members of the Australian swimming party, accompanied by Mr. L. J. Kenny, Auckland, as manager, went to Hawera from New Plymouth yesterday. Mr. A. M. Wilson, who has been head teacher at Rawhitiroa for the past three years, has received an appointment at Grey Lynn, Auckland, and wifi commence duty there after the holidays. While at Rawhitiroa he has taken a prominent part in cricket and other sport.

Mr. H. R. Chalmers, chief inspector of the Bank of Zealand, has been appointed assistant-general manager of the bank in succession to Mr. F. W. Dawson, who is now general manager, states a Press Association message. Mr. Chalmers jointed the bank’s service in November, 1899, at Te Awamutu. He is a native of Takapau, Hawke’s Bay.
