DOMINION SCHOOL DEFECTS
“DEADLY UNIFORMITY” CRITICISED,
DRASTIC CHANGES ADVOCATED.

Allying himself with Professor Condliffe, Archdeacon Whitehead, warden of Selwyn College, speaking at the school break-up, said that the grievous defects of the New Zealand State schools were their deadly uniformity, rigidity and bureaucratic influence. He urged the abolition of inspectors and training colleges, which were a menace to the system.
