The weather will be unsettled, cloudy and misty with rain in most districts. Some heavy falls are probable. Temperatures will become cold.
Another intense westerly depression crossed the Dominion during Saturday night and to-day a shallow secondary of cyclonic form has been located over the eastern Tasman Sea. An extensive anti-cyclone now covers Australia. Winds will be north westerly at first north of Westport and Kaikoura, with southerlies becoming general during tonight or to-morrow. The southerlies will be moderate to strong and in places reaching gale force. Seas will be rough generally. SHIPPING MOVEMENTS. Lyttelton, December 16:—Arrived: Rangatira (6.50 a.m.), from Wellington; Port Whangarei (7 a.m.), from Timaru; Tees (7.10 a.m.), from Chatham Islands; Waikouaiti (11.30 a.m.), from Timaru. Sailed: Port Whangarei (12.5 p.m.), for Wellington; Tees (6.20 p.m.), for Wellington; Rangatira (8.20 p.m.), for Wellington. Lyttelton, December 17:—Arrived: Wahine (6.50 a.m.), from Wellington; Abel Tasman (9.40 a.m.); from Timaru; Gale (12.15 p.m.), from Wellington; Port Dunedin (3.14 p.m.), from Tokomaru Bay. Auckland, December 16:—Sailed: Baroona (1.15 p.m.), for Norfolk Island; South Africa (4 p.m.), for San Pedro. Auckland, December 17:—Arrived: Karamea (5.30 p.m.), from Wanganui; Kaimiro (3 p.m.), from New Plymouth. Melbourne, December 17:—Arrived: Wainui, from Bluff.
