CALF=REARING AT SCHOOL

TAINUI DISTRICT RESULTS IMPROVEMENT IN STANDARD. VALUE AS BROAD EDUCATION. , . ■ >£■ Prior to .the calf championship judging at Awakino the various school competitions were completed and representative selections of animals were made for presentation on the final day. Farmerjudges, assisted by Mr. D. Mackay, Education Board’s instructor in agriculture, judged the animals. Interesting judging competitions for the pupils were organised at several of the schools and won the interest of parents and pupils alike. Increasing interest was manifested in increased adult attendances, and the judges expressed the opinion that steady improvement both in the animal selected and the condition in which it was shown was being made. At several schools opportunity was taken of the presence of the parents to exhibit the work of the school in arts and crafts and the calf-rearing competition is. now regarded by school committee and teachers as a means of winning the sy: ipathy of the parents with the efforts of the school in providing a broad education for the children. Notebooks showed general improvement on even last year’s standards. The results are:—
