REVIVAL OF VOLUNTEERS

TARIKI PLATOON FORMED. The reformationtof the Tariki volunteer platoon of the Ist Battalion of the Taraniki Regiment was conducted in a very enthusiastic manner by Lieutenant Lawn and Sergeant-Major >towo at the clubroom on Monday night, there being a good attendance. Fourteen members were sworn in by Lieutenant Lawn, and it is hoped that this number will be considerably increased at the first parade on December 18. Supper was provided by members of the club, after which Ser-geant-Major Rowe gave an instructive address.

The members then formed a committee, Mr. Edward Mahon being elected chairman and Mr. Jack Pettit secretary. Ser-geant-Major Rowe and Lieutenant Lawn, expressed their wishes that a coffee club and gymnasium be formed as they would be an added pleasure on parade nights. They also stated that providing members of the club attained the standard of training necessary those who could.get leave would go to camp at Waipukurau with the Taranaki Regiment in, February.’ A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Mahon for his offer to the club of the old billiard room for use as a club-room free of charge. A very successful reunion was concluded by members expressing a vote of thanks to Sergeant-Major Rowe and Lieutenant Lawn for having come from Stratford for the occasion, and for the confidence placed in the members. Private W. Crow took a . very active part in the organising of the club, and it is pleasing to note that his efforts were fully rewarded.
