WOMEN’S DIVISION

Manaia: The monthly meeting of the Manaia branch was held on Tuesday. Mrs. Walters presided over a fair attendance. A guessing competition resulted in Mr. N. Jones winning a Christmas cake donated by Mrs. Walters. A bring-and-buy stall under the supervision of Mrs. Byrne was well patronised. The sum of 5s is to be forwarded to Pan-Pacific League and £1 4s for relief work in the district. Misses Hughes and Scott were hostesses for the afternoon.

Lepperton: The monthly meeting was held in the hall on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. H. E. Blyde presiding over a large attendance. One new member was elected. Arrangements were made for Miss Astwood’s gift evening, the basketball girls to carry out final arrangements. A letter from the Dominion president and other correspondence was read. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. W. Clark.

Okato: Twenty members were present at the November meeting. The president (Mrs. Corbell) welcomed two new members, Mrs. A. Cole and Miss Jean McGill. Mrs. Andrews was thanked for providing a large bundle of clothes for a distress case. The secretary was asked to write for more information about the box lectures. Arrangements were made for a children’s fancy dress dance. Mrs. Larking and Miss Petersen are to teach the children a few dances. A competition was won by Mrs. Eustace, Mrs. Tappin donating the prize. A roll call, the subject being “The household task I dislike most,” caused amusement. The hostesses, Mesdames Tappin and Williams, served afternoon tea.

Opunake: The monthly meeting was held last Monday, Mrs. W. Chambers presiding over a splendid attendance. The secretary reported that she had forwarded 10s to the Red Cross Society in answer to an appeal to assist a Russian child to New Zealand. A letter was received from the Women’s Institute inviting members to be present at an entertainment to be held in December. A competition for an eiderdown was won by Mrs. G. Markham.

Awatuna: There was a good attendance present at the monthly meeting on Tuesday afternoon, when Mrs. Bourke presided. Sister Small gave an address ori the uses and applications of poultices and hot fomentations. A letter of sympathy is to be sent to Mrs. Walter Cassidy in her severe illness. A competition for scones was won by Mrs. Bankhead, who received three handkerchiefs. Sister Small was judge.
