HAWERA TRACK WORK

CANDIDATES FOR WAVERLEY. PROMISING FORM DISCLOSED. There seems to be every prospect of the Hawera horses being well to the fore at' Waverley on Monday. Thirteen horses from- Hawera will compete, and as usual they should win at least their share of the stakes offered. The first race; the Hack Hurdles, finds two Hawera representatives engaged, March Alone and. Don Erma. March Alone has only to fence properly to run prominently. However, few- newcomers to the hurdling ranks win at their first start over the battens, and it is more than likely that his opponents will be too experienced for him. The race should improve him and his turn should come shortly. The hunter - Don Erma will be up against a stronger ’ class than he has yet encountered, but as he jumps safely and has a reasonable turn of pace he should have a fair chance. He had a very strenuous time during tile hunting season, and when put into work was in very poor condition. He is still very lean and is open to considerable improvement. Weatherzane, Paparua and Flying East are the Hawera hopes for the Morton Memorial Maiden, but it is hard to. see any of this trio heading off either Silk

Sox or Sea Fox. Weatherzane is in good condition and his track work lately has been fair. He should do better When he meets a weaker class field, and should be taken into consideration about Christmas time. Flying East will be making his first public appearance. The Austra-lian-bred gelding will need the race and should be seen to advantage later in the season. Paparua has been off the scene for some time but his recent track work has been excellent and he should run a good race. There is a possibility however that he will be reserved for the last race.

Green Linnet and Richfield, have accepted for the Brewer Handicap. Although she is undergoing a preparation more suitable for her forthcoming hurdle campaign Green Linnet cannot be entirely discarded. When in the mood she is a particularly smart sprinter. She usually races best when fresh and it would occasion no surprise to see her upset calculations on Monday. His recent track work suggests that Richfield will be a competitor- in the Waverly Cup instead of in the Brewer Handicap. La Crown, Round Table and Don Erma figure in the Wilson Highweight. La Crown seems likely to be the favourite. She has been very leniently treated by the handicapper and has been galloping in great style lately. Provided she leaves the mark correctly she seems likely to be in the firing line. Round Table is a useful horse in the making but is not right yet, and has an outside chance only.' Don Erma will not be a starter in this event.

Havering, Gibraltar and Richfield are down to contest the Waverley Cup. Havering is far from ready yet' and is much too burly to do himself justice. Gibraltar won this’ race last year and should go well again, especially if the going is soft. His recent track work indicates that he is a much improved horse. Richfield also must be taken into consideration and looks like having a hand in the decision of this race. He appears to have thrown off the slight soreness which was troubling him during the early part of this week. St. Clara will be in much greater demand than either Chief Line or March Alone in the Moumahaki Stakes. She has been working so impressively lately that it is likely she will touch a short price. Chief Line does not appeal ana even should March Alone put in a second appearance it is hard to see him beating the Grandcourt mare.

In the Jackson Hack Stakes Hawera stables will be represented by La Crown, Paparua and Ingenuity. La Crown will attempt to win a double during the day, and her track work points to her going very well. The main trouble with this, mare is her waywardness at the barrier, but provided she leaves the mark with the others she will keep them busy. If reserved Paparua would appreciate the.furlong shorter distance than in the maiden. He has plenty of pace and should give a good account of himself. Ingenuity will need to improve on her track efforts if she is to be in a. place.
