PUNGAREHU NOTES
TENNIS CLUB DANCE. At the annual dance of the Pungarehu Tennis Club the Royal Maori String Band played to a large gathering. The stage was decorated with greenery and suspended tennis racquets. Members of the band gave items, Mr. Martin’s yodeling being appreciated, while Miss Kathleen Skipper’s exhibition of the hula was deservedly applauded. A male quartet gave tWo popular selections. Miss C. Brophy and Mr. A. Bailey won a Monte Carlo dance. Masters of ceremonies were Messrs. A. Roots afid T. Brophy. Mrs. P. Brophy and Miss H. Bishop tied for the first and second euchre prizes. Mr. Tai Graham won the men’s first prize and Messrs. L. Bdardmore, G. Pukehika, L. Baker and P. Barrett drew for second place. In the play-off Mr. P. Barrett Won. Supper Was served by members of the club.

Deacon (floral ninon), Penwarden (plum shaded moracain), O’Donnell, Marton (black lace); the Misses E. Clarke (pink organdie), M. Vautier, Palmerston North (blue organdie), O’Donnell (flame taffetas), I. Gray (black velvet and white organdie), G. Emeny, Te Kiri (red satin), M. Julian (broWn satin), M. Brophy (blue and white tennis frock), A. Bell (figured frock), P. Smith (blue angel skin lace), G. Fleming (black georgette), R. Wells (daffodil satin), C. Brophy (blue pin spot muslin), E. Gilhooly (white tennis frock), H. Doody (lemon voile trimmed blue), M, Haskill (pink satin and net), M. Jones (black net), H. Clarke (red satin), N. Wells (beige artgel-skin lace), P. Brennan (tennis frock), M. Newport (blue crepe de chine), J. Newport (pink satin), J. Gray (green frilled georgette), E. Doody (green •floral voile), M. Brewer (shell pink georgette), E. Pickering (green floral rayon). Every week-end tennis players are to be seen hard at practise. At present there are 25 financial members Of the club and more are expected to join. The courts are repaired and the netting replaced. A hedge is to be planted to form a badlyneeded break-wind.
Personal. Mrs. M. Fleming, who is an inmate of the hospital, is making good progress. Mr. T. Barret is in hospital. Mrs. D. Wells is visiting Palmerston North.
