POPULAR COMEDIAN DEAD
“FATTY” ARBUCKLE’S FORTUNE. ' I EARNED £2OO DAILY; LEFT £4OO. Once his income was £2OO a day, but Roscoe Arbuckle, known in his best years to millions of filmgoers as “Fatty,” has left about £4OO only. When she applied for letters of administration recently his widow stated: “My husband left personal property which does not exceed 2000 dollars (about £400), and no
real estate.” Roscoe Arbuckle was one of the most popular fat comedians of the silent screen, but after a Hollywood party which created a great scandal his light was under a bushel, and his earnings diminished enormously. It is typical of the irony of life that his death should have occurred on June 29, just when he appeared to be making a comeback in “talkies.” Ernest Torrence, another famous and highly-paid figure of the films who died recently, left only about £2OOO.
