( DARING WITH DELICACY

FAMOUS “STRANGE INTERLUDE.”

NORMA SHEARER’S TALENT.

Set Norma Shearer, Clark Gable, Ralph ' Morgan and other leading players in the film setting of a Pulitzer Prize play, which had a 14-months unbroken run in '• New York, and there is every reason to '■ expect something unusual in pictures. The particular attraction, Eugene O’Neill’s “Strange Interlude,” which opens at the Opera House to-day, is more than* ■unusual — competent critics describe it as the most revolutionary picture in years. It introduces in addition to a daring theme, Shakespearean “asides” to the talking films—in other words by a procees the audience hears the players speak thoir secret thoughts as well as courtesy expressions in the dialogue. Norma Shearer is always good and in “Strange Interlude” is reported to excel herself ■ 'tui a woman denied children in marriage, adored by a second man and in love with another. The theme is daring but the treatment accorded it is delicate and / dignified* “ARIZONA TO BROADWAY” HERBERT MUNDIN AS STAB.

COMEDY OF CONFIDENCE MEN.

Herbert Mundin who supplies a good deal of the'humorous relief in that great picture, “Cavalcade,” will be seen in a leading part along with James'Dunn and i Joao Bennett in “Arizona to Broadway,” —hich opens at the Regent to-night Mundin gets opportunities that have been denied him in other pictures and the re- ! suit is very satis- ! fying. The plot changes its locale from the MiddleWest to New York and in doing so presents an entertaining comparison with the petty and humorous practices of the insignificant Western confidence man to the hilarious large-scale practices of metropolitan racketeers. As one who makes good as both Mundin is superb. The supporting cast includes Sammy Cohen, Theodore Von Eitz, and Earle Foxe. '
