PASTURE COMPETITIONS
JUDGING DONE AT URENUI. Judging of the entries in the pasture section of the farmers’ field compeition was continued yesterday, when Mr. J. M. Smith, of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, visited the Urenui district and judged fifteen pastures in the Moerangi, Urenui and Waitoitoi district. He has yet to visit the Pukearuhe end of the district. As at Huirangi the pastures did not possess the same bloom as last year owing to the dry weather and the wind that has been experienced during the last week. The pasture of Mr. S. Managh, Moerangi, has secured the highest points so far. The judge was accompanied throughout the day by Mr. .D. L. Tate, secretary of th? Urenui branch of the Farmers’ Union, and a numbqr of farmers. They were entertained to morning ,tea by Mr. A. H. Halcombe and to afternoon tea by Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Tate. Details, points being for good grasses (30), good clovers (25), freedom from inferior grasses (5), freedom from weeds (10), denseness (15), evenness (15), total (100), are:—
