ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
SUCCESS OF ANNUAL APPEAL. HOUSE-TO-HOUSE CANVASS MADE. As a result of a generous response to the annual mart and street collection held by the New Plymouth branch of the St. John Ambulance Association yesterday nearly £5O was raised towards the general funds, A few returns have yet to be made. At the mart brisk business was done, and collectors in Devon Street also met a good response. A house-to-house canvass was made, every street in the town being covered. The collectors included Mesdames Edgecombe, J. Roberts, Trueman, Honeyfield, E. Clark, Short, R. A. Wall, Julian, A. E. Williams, Jarvis, Burrows, T. Knight, Way, Chivers, Batten, A. Davidson, Misses J. Deare, M. McGorman, Hargraves, C. Johnstone, Woods, M. Bell, Howlett, J. Beale, B. Johnstone, Warburton, Finnstone, Connett, Hamilton, Sowerby, Brereton, Whitcombe, Gaustad, Nuttall, Balharry, Fenwick, Rennall, Williamson, B. White, E. Coombes, Bleakly, G. Giddy, Duffin, Brereton, Hunter, Anstis, Mesrs. R. Williams, G. Beaven and Master R. Baillie. The mart was in charge of Mrs. Wright (Westown), assisted by Mrs. Childerstone and Miss Gilbert, and £5 8s 9d was taken during the day.' Ths committee of the St. John Ambulance Association, under the chairmanship of Mr. R. A. Wail and with Mr. A. E. Williams as secretary, had been hard at work for some time making arrangements for the appeal, and the results exceeded last' year’s by £2O. The proprietors' of the Mon Desir tearooms provided free luncheon foi* collectors, and Messrs. ’ Henry and Howlett made large donations of plants to the mart.
