MANAIA GOLF CLUB

The official closing of the Manaia Golf Club took place on Wednesday afternoon. There was a large attendance of golfers and visitors. A nine-hole medal round was won' by Miss D. McKay and W. Meuli. The long driving competition for ladies was won by Mrs. Meuli in the senior division and Miss Wood in the junior. The men’s long driving was won by V. Hobday. In the approaching and putting competition Mrs. A. J. Christie won the ladies’ prize and A. J. Christie the men’s. . The president of the club (Mr. A. J. Christie) stated that during the season the greens had been enlarged, thus improving the course. He congratulated the greenkeepers on the manner in which they had cared for the greens, and thanked the lessees of the domain for their generous treatment in allowing the club to enlarge the greens and mow the fairways. Special thanks were also due to Mr. J. S. McKay, on whose property the links are partly situated. The president also thanked donors of trophies, tlie members of committees and the secretaries for their loyal assistance. He called upon Mrs. A. J. Christie to present the trophies as follows:— Ladies: Senior championship, Mrs. Cottrell; junior championship, Miss Vine; flag competition, Miss D. McKay; L.G.U. silver medal, Miss Paterson; Christie Cup, Mrs. Cottrell; bogey competition, Miss Paterson; sealed handicap, Miss Paterson; eclectic (Mrs. J, S. McKay’s trophy), Mrs. Spooner; ringer (Mrs. Mac Diarmid’s trophy), Miss Wood. Men: Senior championship, D. Anderson; junior championship, G. H. Meuli; eclectic (president’s trophy), D. Ekdahl; bogey (Mr. Instone’s trophy), T. W. Armitage; Armitage foursome handicap, T. W. Armitage and Mrs. Hobday; benedicts’ foursome, Instone and Mrs. Instone; Canadian foursome, D. Anderson and Miss Paterson.
