PRIMARY SCHOOL CRICKET

PREVIOUS SEASON REVIEWED. “There is not the slightest doubt that primary school cricket is improving, said Mr. C. G. Bottrill last night when the annual report of the North Taranaki Primary School Sports Association was presented at the annual meeting of the North Taranaki division Of the association. Continuing Mr. Bottrill stated that it was evident that when the boys reached the secondary school stage they had a much better idea of the fundamentals of cricket. The report stated that the school season coincided with the school years and therefore included a portion of the previous year. Eight teams competed in the competition, the Whittle Shield being won by Bell Block, which suffered one defeat. In the annual match North Taranaki easily defeated South Taranaki. A remarkably high standard of cricket was displayed. In fact a steady improvement had been seen during the past three or four years. At present Fitzroy is leading in the first round of this year’s competition, which commenced last February. The second round begins on October 14. Probably extra competitions will be conducted by the sports groups established in several country districts. It was estimated that at least 200 boys received cricket instruction under the Primary School Association.
