DEBUTANTES PRESENTED

VICE-REGAL BALL. There were over 300 guests at the ball given by Their Excellencies, the Gov-ernor-General and Lady. .Bledisloe, at Government House, Wellington, on Friday evening, when 24 debutantes attended, states a Wellington exchange. The long ballroom wax decorated with the hothouse flowers that thrive so wonderfully in the Government House conservatories. Cyclamen in pink and white banked against the white walls ’ accentuated the pink of the brocaded curtains. Cinerarias showed blue and mauve beside the dais, where delicate greenery masked the chandeliers and the wall behind the blue brocaded chairs. It-was an exquisite setting for the many debutantes, whg passed in a procession -before Their Excellencies.

Rear-Admiral Robin Dalglish,. G.R., R.N., and officers of the Australian Squadron, were present, in uniform, and with the military and air force uniforms of members of the New Zealand Services, added to tire brilliance of ..the scene. . .. > - •

Lady Bledisloe wore a gown pf -white satin embroidered with diamante, with ostrich feather trimming at the shoulders. On her head she. wore a diamond tiara and carried a fan of huge white ostrich feathers. ...

Lady Day was in a dress of crimson lace, with matching georgette coak Miss Diana Harris wore pale cyclamen crinkle crepe with shoulder straps of diamante. The debutantes, announced by Lieutenant Rodney Thomson, entered one by one with the ladies who presented them, made their curtsies, and took their places on the other side, of the room. The crowded ballroom waited in silence while the dignified ceremony proceeded, breaking into a hum of talk when the last presentation was over. Debutantes included: Miss Rosalinde Arkwright (Marton), Miss Molly Bishop, Miss Zena Clarke, Miss Diana Goldsmith, Miss Madge Castle, Miss Peggy Kain, Miss Kathleen Kejnpthorne, Miss Jean Knox-Gilmer, Miss Betty Tonge, Miss Edna Houlker (Nelson), Misses Marion and Joyce Mayer, Miss Margaret Munro, Miss Marjorie Murray, Miss Molly Neale, Miss Ula Ramsey, Miss Pauline Shayle-George (Lyttelton), Miss Betty Sladden, Miss Noni Moore (Nelson), Miss Helen Moodie, Miss Jill Moodie (Napier), Miss Adrienne Beere, Miss Natalje Tartakover, Miss Rosalind Stott, Miss Patricia Martin, Misses Nora and Betty McLaren, Misses Ngaire and Doreen Cdbbe, Miss Rosamond Riddiford, Miss Oriel Pollock (Napier), Miss Xellie Steele (Napier), Miss Betty Swindurne.
