PUNGAREHU NOTES

Well-Attended Euchre. 'There was an exceptionally large feathering at the Catholic euchre party and dance held in the Pungarehu hall on Saturday night The big supper room was well packed with euchre players, there being 28 tables engaged. A dance programme for the non-card players was arranged while the euchre was in progress. Miss E. Gilhooly played for the dances, Mrs. Brennan and Miss M. Sole playing extras. The duties of master of ceremonies were carried out by Messrs. Brophy and L. F. D. Beardmore. Winners in the euchre were: Ladies, Mrs. Brennan 1 (104 games), Mrs. R. J. Fleming 2 (10 games), Mrs. W. Hopkins 3 (9 games). In the men s section Mr. C. Julian was first with ten games and Mr. j. Fleming and.. Mr. E. Barrett tied for second place with 91 games each. In the play-off Mr. Fleming won. A delicious home-made supper was served by Mesdames Brophy and Deacon, Misses M. Gilhooly, M. Barrett, M. Brophy, C. and S. Brophy. A cake given bv Mrs. W. Kirkwood was won by Mr. A. Baily- Mr. H. Gilhooly on behalf of the committee which organised the function thanked all for their support. Vautier (Palmerston J\Lrth) is the guest of her sister, Mrs. A. V. Lancaster. Miss A. Bell, Puniho, is on the staff of

the Pungarehu school relieving in place of Miss K. Shaw, who has been granted sick leave. Mr. R. B. Fleming has been in illhealth lately.
